Welcome to
Morningstar Nature Refuge |
|
 he
only one of its kind in North Carolina, this private nature center focuses
on education about the natural resources of the state and planet while using
a subdued Native American theme of the Sacred Circle of Life.
Gail
Leggett-Roberson, eastern North Carolina author, columnist and naturalist,
juggles the operation of the refuge that surrounds her home and outdoor
studio, by appointment only. She shares years of nature study free of
charge, and even opens her beautiful herb, perennial and evergreen garden
for your enjoyment. Many refer to this small educational and entertaining
hideaway as "the healing place," and the
best kept secret in eastern North
Carolina, often returning to revel in its peace, beauty and solitude. The
refuge carries the name of a Cherokee ancestor of its owner and offers
insight into ancient practice of "use without abuse" and "use without using
up." There is a deep spiritual connection here that encourages respect,
personal responsibility and deep awareness. The center is located halfway
between the capital city of Raleigh and the Atlantic coast, in the county
seat of Martin and fifteen minutes from the Roanoke River National Wildlife
Refuge.
